Job Description: Typically this position includes work in the planning, design, permitting, and services during construction of gravity and pressure water pipelines, sewer pipelines, lined and unlined canals, hydraulic structures, flood control detention dams, fish screen structures, pumping plants, and large scale irrigation systems. Computer models often used include HEC-RAS for open channel flow analysis, HEC-HMS for watershed hydrology, EPA-NET for pipeline systems, MATHCAD for pipe design. Micro station or AutoCAD for design.
Individual will be working in multi-discipline teams consisting of junior and senior engineers (civil, mechanical, structural, geotechnical, electrical, Instrumentation & control), mapping, environmental planners, soil scientists, hydrogeologists, drafting technicians, cost estimators, graphic artists, project assistants, word processors, and editing staff to provide high quality technical reports, design drawings and specifications to clients on schedule and on budget. This individual may be a task leader, an assistant project manager, or a design manager depending on the complexity of the project and their skill level. In these roles the individual would be responsible for their teams work product, budget, and schedule. Individual is expected to train and mentor junior staff. This individual will receive training in appropriate computer modeling, confined space, and 10-hr construction
May also serve as Lead Civil Engineer for multiple projects or assist other engineers. Must be capable of supervising and leading work of subordinate civil engineers and designers through the execution of a project. Attends client meetings and site visits, defines scope of work, Establishes Communication and Review Protocols. Monitors and advises Functional Manager and Project Manager of changes. Develops project plan and executes within budget. Prepares detail design milestone and staffing schedules. Establishes design concepts and design data for work assigned to group and assures technical accuracy and conformance to project requirements.
Recognizes unusual situations where standard calculation procedures are not appropriate and performs the more sophisticated and complicated designs/calculations in accordance with established client specific standards. Applies engineering tasks and exhibits an excellent understanding and knowledge of applicable codes. Capable of independently evaluating the selection and/or modification of standard techniques, procedures, criteria and systems to efficiently meet project goals. Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work. Determines scope of project work. Prepares and coordinates engineering reports, studies, calculations, and checks drawings as required. Participates in conferences with the client to establish project objectives and resolve design problems. Executes work within labor-hour budget and schedule. Provides detail design sketches to engineers and designers. Responsible for the collection of field information and resolving field problems.
Performs other tasks as requested by Project manager.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum 10 years of related technical experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in civil design and engineering of water, wastewater, new and rehabilitated sewer and conveyance structures. Must have California PE registration in good standing. Must be proficient with AutoCAD or Microstation and other civil terrain modeling software.
